AI will not replace designers

Intro to AI

While AI may same scary, unpredictable, and new AI applications seem to keep coming here and there, I can assure you that AI is no replacement for a good designer or any designer for that matter. AI can make some good designs but every designer knows that there is more to making a logo, making digital assets, and other design than it just being "visually appealing" or "pretty".

AI is a tool not a replacement

As stated earlier, AI can make some pretty pictures this doesn't mean it can be used to your advantage. if you look below you will see the result of me using AI, the design on the business cards and contract was mine but the AI that Photoshop now has provided with me with the images, now the image serves as a promising mockup.

I also stated that there is more to graphic design than just making things look pretty, graphic designers account for the following things when designing:

  • They take into account emotions

  • The company's core values

  • Understood human behavior

  • Understand what appeals to the target audience's beliefs

AI will never account for these variables, it will account for what has already been made.

Designers have taste

Designers have a sense of taste while AI doesn't have any. AI maybe able to provide with dozens maybe even hundreds of different design ideas AI won't tell you which design is the right one.

Designers have experience when designing they have seen bad designs as well as good ones, understand feedback, have critical thinking skills, and have experienced enough failures to understand what drives results.

It is best to work with AI than against it

While AI is a powerful tool to help you a designer in their work it is not something that you should compete against. If you compete with what AI gives you it might cost you time coming up with the following:

  • Concept Development

  • User Experience

  • Brand Identity

  • Problem Solving

  • Creative Direction

By letting AI handle most of the grunt work you can focus on these aspects of design which make you grow as a designer.

Conclusion

AI is strong and powerful application and there is no arguing that. But as stated it is no replacement for a designer. It is best for designers to adapt to AI rather than compete with it.
